On Thursday, September 24th, volunteer coordinators will host various “Meet Your Neighbor” events around the City. Amsterdam’s greatest asset is its close-knit community. Our goal is to protect and enhance this asset. We wish to encourage you to take this opportunity to network, to share ideas, and work on neighborhood self-improvement projects.
Grassroots activities are planned for the following sites:
SOUTH SIDE
La Cucina from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Hosted by Rebecca Persico and Karl Baia. Pizza, pastries and appetizers.
WEST END
West End Memorial starting at 6 p.m.
Hosted by Debbie Baranello and Karin Hetrick.
Cake, candy, a caricature artist, face painter, T-shirts made with the new city logo, balloons, and raffles of donated goods from various West End businesses. Money raised will go toward planting tulips in the neighborhood.
UNION STREET HILL
Corner of Union and Orange Streets from 6 to 8 p.m.
Hosted by Kevin Phelps. Music and APD canine demonstration.
ARNOLD AVENUE TRIANGLE

“At the center of the universe is a
loving heart that continues to beat
and that wants the best for every person.
Anything we can do to help foster
the intellect and spirit and emotional growth
of our fellow human beings, that is our job.
Those of us who have this particular vision
must continue against all odds.
Life is for service.”

Thank you to all of the organizers of the MYN celebrations around the city and to all of the wonderful people that came out to enjoy this lovely September evening. Turnout at this first time event was even better than we had anticipated. At every site we pulled up to, dozens of people were chatting, smiling, laughing, taking pictures, and sharing refreshments. There were engaged people of all ages: children in face paint with balloons, elderly folks sharing stories and cupcakes, and mothers with strollers. Even the packs of prattling “tweens” seemed to enjoy the festivities (not an easy audience to please). All in all, I estimate that we enticed around 400-500 people to come out and join in the fun.
I am so grateful to everyone for making this event a success. Bravo, Amsterdam.
p.s. Special thanks to Amsterdam’s tremendous police department. Their presence made for a safe, relaxed, entertaining affair.
Lt Kercato and the Police Explorers took the yoeman task of distribting flyers widely in the 4th Ward ..We are all very thankful for their help and encouragement so that our event was well attended
On another note our 100/100 raffel’s jackpot was $75, won by Mike Ryba
The West End party raised over $250 toward Tulip Bulbs for the Veteran’s Park!
Yippee!
